Contractor's Pollution Liability is usually written on an occurrence form and is designed for contractors who are not involved in environmental work. Many of these contractors face potential environmental liabilities that are not easily recognizable. They can be held responsible for pollution events just by virtue of having worked at a site where contaminated soil is later discovered, or unknowingly stumble across an unmarked underground pipeline or tank and inadvertently cause a pollution incident. These insureds need defense cost and cleanup insurance to respond to governmental directives that will not wait for the courts to determine ultimate liability.
